Weekend Getaways From Kolkata



All weekend getaways tend to be exciting and exhilarating. There are a large number of destinations where one can find himself away from the humdrum and chaos of the metropolis. Such weekend breaks invigorate and refresh you.

For a weekend getaway, Kolkata offers destinations like Darjeeling hill station, Sunderban jungle, Raichak, Digha and much more. These wonderful places provide a break from the boredom and monotony of day to day life.

Darjeeling:
Darjeeling is famous for its serene and calm beauty. This hill station is an ideal place for a relaxing weekend getaway. The clean and the cool climate coupled with picturesque green tea gardens are purely breathtaking. The places of interest in Darjeeling are the Mall road, Batasia Loop and War Memorial, Mountaineering Institute, Tiger Hill for the beautiful Sun rise, Zoological garden, and the Ropeway. The travelers also enjoy taking a ride in the toy train of Darjeeling.

Sunderban:
These dense forests are famous for Royal Bengal tigers. They are located at the southern tip of West Bengal.

Digha:
Digha is a preferred destination for many as far as small trips are concerned. It is in fact an amazing option for a weekend getaway as it is merely four and half to five hours from Kolkata.


Raichak:
This destination is located at Diamond Harbour. Raichak is located on the banks of Hooghly River. It has a very pleasant and agreeable climate. The place has its personal appeal with the well known Raichak fort being located over there. The fort is now being converted into a the Radisson Resort and is a preferred destination for travelers..

Chandipur:
Chandipur is located at a distance of about 250 Kms from Kolkata. It is a superb place and the stroll on the beach throughout the evening hours is truly rejuvenating and energizing.

Vishnupur:
This place is well-known for terracotta works, metal wares and striking shrines made of mud. People from come here to buy things made of terracotta to decorate their houses. Places of attraction here are, Madan Mohan Temple, Jor Bangla Temple, Ras Mancha, Dalmadal Cannon, Ras Mancha, Mrinmoyee Mandir, Shyam Rai Temple, Malla King's Fort, Jogesh Chandra Pura Kirti Bhavan Museum.

Shantiniketan:
The place is famous for Shantiniketan University which was set up by the Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. The best time to visit Shantiniketan is all through November to March as during the month of March Holi celebrations take place here.
