Stilbaai Accommodation South Africa

For the budget holiday maker travelling with small children a caravan/camping site is an excellent choice. Most sites are equipped with electrical power points to make roughing it easy and large and hygienic ablution facilities add to the comfort.
All Stilbaai camping/caravan sites are situated either on the banks of the pretty, clean Goukou River or a stone"s throw from the blue flag beach at Lappiesbaai with its long stretches of clean white sand, lapped by the warm Indian Ocean. The beaches are monitored by professional lifeguards during peak holiday season ensuring peace of mind for harried parents.
Another good choice of affordable accommodation in Stilbaai is in one of the many self-catering chalets and beach cottages. These are fully equipped and all you need to do is bring along your own bedding and towels. With a wide variety of cottages and chalets to choose from this is a good choice for a family.
Surfers and kite and wind surfers will enjoy the waves when the east wind is blowing and can take advantage of the abundance of reasonably-priced group accommodation facilities available.
With so much water surrounding this little town, it"s not surprising that there are a wide variety of water sports on offer. These include snorkelling, scuba diving, skiing, boating, rock-angling, surfing and fishing.

Those intrepid souls, the bungee jumpers, will happily terrify themselves by plunging from the nearby Gouritz River Bridge. For the less adventurous, a nine-hole golf course and bowling green must provide excitement.
Avid birdwatchers will be rewarded by the sight of a plethora of marine birds and other migratory birds that converge on the area and hikers will rejoice in the plentiful trails with their diverse flora.
Camping/caravan accommodation can be difficult with young children but there is so much to see and do in Stilbaai that boredom need never set in. The children will enjoy a trip to the oldest homestead in the district, Palinggat, where the tame, blue-eyed eels are fed by hand at 11 a.m. each day, excluding Sundays.
Whales frolic close to the beach during the months of June to November and in spring the wild flowers provide a breathtaking sight. Visible at low tide, the ancient stone fish traps have been in use for over 2,500 years and the prehistoric shell middens make for interesting exploring.

Self-catering accommodation is the perfect choice for families and a wide variety of restaurants on the doorstep may be visited on the days when self-catering palls. Fresh fish is on sale daily from the harbour and include the ever-popular kob, elf and steenbras, so pop down there as the fishing boats are coming in and treat the family to an evening fish braai. Kob weighing over 50 kg are regularly landed by anglers fishing from river boats, so feel free to invite all your newly-made friends over for the feast.

Stilbaai is surrounded with working farms and a trip to one of the charming farm stalls will have you returning to your self-catering accommodation laden with goodies like olives, organic meat and home-made preserves. Also check out the nearby cheese factory and take advantage of South Africa"s eminently drinkable wines at very, very low prices.

Another really good idea for the family holiday-maker is the accommodation offered by the guest farms in the Stilbaai area and city children will love playing with the donkeys, rabbits, guinea pigs, dairy calves and miniature mountain goats or learning to canoe on the river. Horse riding is another option and makes for a fun family outing. If you would like to bring family pets along for the holiday, be sure to check whether they are welcome.

Stilbaai is truly a paradise for the low-budget holiday-maker and a destination which will have you coming back for more, year after year.
