So where do you head for? Logic says that it should be somewhere that's still enjoying its own summer, so how about the following ideas?
Argentina : By February, the country is reaching the end of its summer, but temperatures stay consistently around the 30 degrees C mark, with rainfall tending to come in short, sharp bursts.
Spanish is the native language, making the country appeal to regular visitors to this part of Europe, but you will also find English widely spoken. It is a vast country with much spectacular mountain scenery, while the capital Buenos Aires boasts a wonderful mix of old colonial and modern architecture, and is an imaginative choice for a romantic Valentine getaway. The more active might want to consider trekking in Patagonia and the southern Andes, but you'll need to pack at least a fleece for this!
Australia : With its Christmas and New Year celebrations now a distant memory, the country is getting down to enjoying the rest of its summer. With so much attention focused on Oz around the turn of each year, holding back for a month or so can reap dividends for visitors, in that life has begun to return to normal, so everything seems so much more relaxed and easy-going.
Not only that, but of course, there's no holiday premium on prices and, if you choose the country's tropical zone (northern Western Australia, Northern Territory and northern Queensland), these parts still have plenty of summer left, as the seasons are basically divided into just two.
Brazil : As February gets into its stride, everyone begins to get ready for the Rio Carnival, which takes place towards the end of the month. But whatever time you visit in the run-up, you'll find that the anticipation is high and it's easy to get swept up in all the excitement.
The statue of Corcovado (Christ the Redeemer) stretches out its arms to welcome you, and by visiting this month, you'll catch much of the country in holiday mood. So if your idea of the perfect antidote to winter involves partying, sunshine and bright lights, Brazil is ready and waiting for you!
India : Summers in this vast country are known to be hot and oppressive, so it pays to delay your visit until the season is past its peak. Delightful Goa makes a great destination at around this time, the miles of beaches offering an inviting way to forget the dismal weather back home.
The relaxed night-time atmosphere doesn't stop the local population from setting out to enjoy themselves, and thronging the bars and clubs along the mile-long coastal stretch of Anjuna. This resort also hosts a vast flea market every Wednesday, which brings in traders from all over India. And as a World Heritage Site, you'll find plenty to enthrall you if you're fascinated by architecture.
Malaysia : Beautiful landscapes and plenty of historical interest await visitors here, as well as incredibly diverse wildlife, and a consistent climate which boasts average temperatures of above 25 degrees C all year round. By February, the country's rainy season is coming to an end, which makes this time of year ideal for a reliable sunshine holiday.
Boasting some of the world's richest diving sites, with amazingly varied fish and coral, and national parks where the likes of tigers and rhinos can be seen. The country is, though, most renowned for its orangutans, which live in protected habitats in the states of Sabah and Sarawak, and can be watched up close at feeding times.
