Reading And Motorcycles
Mazatlan, Mexico has been the ideal vacation location for thousands of tourists for the last few centuries. With the classic tropical, colorful atmosphere that provides all of the fun tourist attractions and amenities Mazatlan has been instrumental in creating many memories.
Known as one of the most dynamic cultural events, the "Journeys for Reading UAS 97" draws thousands of tourists, authors, and book lovers every year from March 12th to the 21st. This fair began by featuring editorial companies and authors, but has quickly grown to be a place of learning and celebration.
A few of the editorial companies invited include Planeta, Alfaguara, Fondo de Cultura Economica and Plaza and James. Paco Ignacio Taibo II, Guillermo Murray Prisant, Juan Villoro, Alberto Ruy Sanchez, Francisco Hinojosa, Elena Poniatowska and Jaime Labastida are all well-known authors in the Spanish sphere.
This event is very influential in reading promotion throughout Mexico. Author, Juan Villoro said it was, "the only fair of the book in the world that happens at a human scale."
Over the years it has grown to include over 250 activities. Every year more authors, both Spanish speaking and international, are invited to showcase their work.
In addition, there are many workshops to help children improve their reading and writing. These workshops are managed by professionals who have gained experience through working at the International Fair of the Book of Guadalajara.
There are also shows put on to entertain children and help them develop a love for reading and other fine art activities. After the shows, tourists enter the headquarters at Machado Square, or the heart of the Historic Center.
Located in this square are stands, multiple stages, picture exhibitions, and the children's workshops. Then, meet famous authors at the Angela Peralta Gallery.
There are many other locations surrounding the area that will also be hosting activities throughout the fair, including the Theater Angela Peralta, local schools, the State University, Olas Altas drive, and the La Gran Plaza Mall.
During this fair there are at least twenty various activities a day to choose from. In addition to the ones previously mentioned there are conferences, musical performances, and book presentations.
The best part about the Journeys for Reading Fair is that these activities are free. In the past groups and performers such as Sherele, Barrio Zumba, Tito Losada, the Sinaloa Folkloric Ballet, and Los Gatos group have all performed for appreciative audiences.
Then from April 7th to 11th, thousands of motorcycle fans fill the streets of Mazatlan for Motorcycle Week. Motorcycle lovers enjoy getting together for some fun and motorcycle talk around Easter time.
They feel a sense of companionship no matter their age, favorite brand of motorcycle, or how old their own motorcycle model actually is. These motorcyclists come from all over the world.
During this five day celebration and camaraderie, many different contests are held. One of these contests is called the Moto Custom.
This basically the contest for who has the best Bobber, Chopper, and Harley. Money, a trophy, a chance to be on the Discovery Channel Show Two-Wheel Thunder, and a chance to be part of a photo shoot for magazines, and interviews for radio and TV all go to the winner.
Another contest is the Xtreme Acrobacy Contest. This is a contest between daredevil or stunt riders to compete for cash, trophies and participation in the Magnum Parade.
The 4x4 Xtreme Route is a race between Quatrimotors and UTVs that tests rider's skills and engine characteristics. This race covers beautiful terrain and passes quaint towns and villages.
The most famous event is the Drag Racing that is celebrated in the Autodromo, Mazatlan. The prizes include over 30,000 pesos, trophies, and the excitement of the race.
In addition to these events, there are many more popular events throughout the week. Mazatlan also offers many different, beautiful attractions of its own.
Mazatlan is home to every ingredient of a fantastic vacation.
