About Patong
Patong beach is located on the West coast of Phuket, it is the main tourist area of Phuket and the center of the famed Phuket nightlife, great hotels and rates, cheap shopping and not to mention great beaches. The beach became popular with western tourists in the late 1980s after which numerous hotels and hotel chains sprung around the area. On December 26, 2004 tragedy struck Patong beach as well as many other coastal resorts along the western side of Phuket, when it was hit by one of the biggest Tsunamis this century. Thanks to the great effort from locals and overseas volunteers alike, it took probably took less than six months to rebuild 80% of the town and its hotels. Hotel room rates were reduced and service, food and all other tourist related industries across the board were overhauled and renewed.
