Nainital The Lake City



Nainital is a popular hill station in the Kumaon Hills of Uttarakhand. A perfect getaway from Delhi, Nainital is known for the Naini Lake. The town is spread around the Naini lake that forms the nucleus of the city. The lake and the town look amazing during the night. Its this lovely setting that makes Nainital a beautiful spot especially for honeymooners and family travelers, who enjoy the view of the lovely lake and also try their hands at boating. Yes you can enjoy boating in the lovely lake.

Besides the lake there are other local tourist attractions, which include ropeway ride and Naina Devi Temple. Nainital is also a great place for shoppers. You can easily hunt for bargain deals at the Mall Road. That is the specialty of all the hill stations established by the British during their rule in India.

There are also quite a few places around Nainital that one can head out to. Khurpatal is an interesting place of tourist attraction that you can visit. Bhimtal is another popular lake attraction in the vicinity of Nainital. The lake is named after the great Bhima of the Mahabharata. You can enjoy boat riding in the lake. This lake also has an island in the middle of it, which has a restaurant. A number of tourists spend time relaxing at the restaurant, enjoying the beauty of the lake and the surroundings.

One can also drive up to the beautiful group of lakes called Saat Tal (Seven Lakes). It is believe that at one point of time there were seven lakes here but now only 5 are remaining. Boating here is an experience in itself. These lakes are surrounded by towering green mountains and make a really good picture.


Another lake that you can visit is Naukuchiatal, named so because it has nine corners. The legend has it that if you can see all the nine corners of the lake whatever you wish, it gets fulfilled. Jeolikot near Nainital is another peaceful place that you can visit.

One can easily combine a trip to Nainital with a wildlife safari to Jim Corbett National Park. The park is named after the legendary conservationist and hunter Jim Corbett.

Nainital is easily accessible from Delhi. Regular buses are available from Anand Vihar ISBT, New Delhi. You can also take an overnight train to Kathgodam, which is the nearest railway station to Nainital.
