NYC West Village
The western part of Greenwich Village is NYC West Village. The boundaries of the West Village are not clearly defined but they attempt to separate it from the surrounding areas using the Hudson River and either Sixth Avenue or Seventh Avenue and then going from 14th Street to Houston Street.
It was known as "Little Bohemia" in 1916 and is the center of the Bohemian lifestyle on the west side. The art galleries in Chelsea by the High Line connect the historic district. By using the elevated train tracks running parallel to Tenth Avenue it transformed an open greenway.
There is a mass of small restaurants, shops and services but the neighborhood is mostly residential. The Meatpacking District is to the north end of the neighborhood and it is sometimes called Gansevoort Historic District. This has fashionable boutiques and night clubs.
While NYC West Village is well known for great restaurants and windy European-like streets, there are museums in the area that can enhance a taste of art, music, and literature through your casual walks. The Village is also a great place to visit on a day that you feel that you want to get lost in a small European city and away from the everyday grid environment north of 14th Street.
The restaurants of the NYC West Village are very beautiful and also there are very lovely unique shops in the area. The pace of life is much slower here than other parts of the city and you will really enjoy your time wandering around in the Village.
