No matter what time of year, the Tropical North Queensland region of Australia has much to do and enjoy. There are activities that can be experienced all year long, as well as numerous events and festivals that come around once a year.
MAY- This time of year is when the Port Douglas Carnival takes place. An annual event that has taken place for the past 18 years the Carnival at Port Douglas is an extravaganza that lasts for ten days and nights and includes a Family Beach Day, a food and wine tasting event, a parade and an incredible concert. This event is spectacular and worth planning your holiday around.
JUNE- In June there are two main events that take place in the Tropical North Queensland region. The first is the Cairns Festival of Sport and the second is the Cooktown Discovery Festival. The Festival of Sports is a competitive triathlon event that the whole family can enjoy. The Cooktown Festival is a reenactment and a celebration of Captain Cook and his landing on the banks of the Endeavour River. These events are only around for a day, but they make an excellent way to spend an afternoon of your vacation.
JULY- Livestock shows, rides and games the Cairns show in July has a lot to offer a tourist or resident. This unique show will be adding a Circus to the venue for 2010, so consider planning your Aussie holiday in July a month full of fun for the whole family.
SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER- September and October are busy months in the Tropical North Queensland, with several things on the calendar that make fur fun filled days and evenings in the region. Be sure to check out the Amateurs Carnival and the Cairns Festival during the month of September, both are very entertaining. In October, consider taking in a little bit of culture with the Opera in the Outback, a fun event that requires formal attire and will provide you with some of the most soothing sounds as the sun sets on the region. Also in October, be sure to check out the Palm Cove Fiesta filled with bright colors and delectable tastes from around the world.
