Matlock Derbyshire For Scenic Splendour
Matlock Derbyshire has the most unforgettable scenery one could imagine. This National Park area is one of the earliest created in the UK and one of the most varied, scenically speaking. The little town of Matlock situated proudly in the Derbyshire peak district was a big tourist attraction in Victorian times, when they were benefited by the excellent train system newly created at that time.
The local inhabitants were mostly engaged in agricultural work with some lead mining thrown in.
Over time, it all changed of course, but a modicum of the spa resort atmosphere has lingered. This is helped by the fact that the centre of it, Hall Leys Park is nearby on the Derwent river. The Park is very attractive, and has numerous facilities which include bowling greens, tennis courts, floral displays and lots more.
Now Matlock being as it is the peak district has numerous nature and hiking trails that stretch into the hills and dales for mile upon mile. These are a magnet for sport and health minded folk from all parts of Britain and other Nations. The trails that wind through the Park are all well sign posted and easily accessible, crossing jaw dropping scenery and full of flora and fauna. The pristine waters of the Derwent reflect the impressive gorges that abound, especially the mighty limestone Derwent Gorge.
The impressive Derwent Gorge creates a fitting backdrop to the whole park area. The old paths in the park lead to many intriguing places, especially one that climbs up to the ancient St Giles Church. The view from the top of the trail is well worth the effort to climb, as is the interior of the building itself.
In order to get access one has to use the cable car from the valley bottom. There are many tours around the area and one worthy of note he is a show cavern named the Great Rutland cavern. In this place the story of a lead miner from the seventeenth century is shown. This is a very popular tourist attraction.
This is a majestic place made of pale limestone, and access is only made possible via a cable car which soars up the gorge sides giving a remarkable view across much of the county.
The cavern called Great Rutland is worth a visit, having a fascinating depiction of family life in seventeenth century Derbyshire. Then there is the Great Masson which showcases dinosaur remains and a magnificent sound and light display. There's plenty of good comfortable accommodation as well as top grade train and road transportation. There is certainly plenty to interest visitors to this part of Derbyshire and Matlock in particular with its wide variety of amenities and things to do. Whether families, singles or couples everyone will enjoy and benefit from a trip to the peak district.
