Most tourists visit Malaga for its historic sites. The city has long been a trade center and was once occupied by the Moors. The city was conquered by Ferdinand and Isabella in 1487. You can still see the imposing fortresses and other remnants of ancient civilizations, including the Romans, Greeks and Phoenicians.

Ferdinand and Isabella were important in Malaga's history and you can see their home, Castillo de Gibralfara (Castle of the Lighthouse). This unique castle was once a real lighthouse as well as a castle.

Christian history is well represented in Malaga: The city's cathedral was built over the site of a mosque. While it is beautiful, the cathedral only has one tower rather than the traditional two because of a lack of funds. The city's first Catholic Mass was celebrated in the Alcazba, which now is the home of a museum and some lovely gardens.

Art aficionados know that Picasso was born in Malaga. Make a point to visit the museum here devoted to his life and art.

For many of us, travel means shopping and Malaga has some great shops to visit. Calle Marques de Larios is the Rodeo Drive of the region, housing the most luxurious of retailers. If you prefer true bargains, visit Plaza de la Constitucion and its surrounding side alleys. There you will find some amazing deals.

Once the sun goes down, the night comes to life in Malaga. There is just about every kind of entertainment available here, but dance is the most popular form. Flamenco, jazz and even Irish dancing can be found on Calle Luis del Velazquez. The Miguel Cervantes Municipal Theatre hosts many famous concerts and performers.

If you want to just soak up sunny Spain, or you just need a break from all this activity, remember the beach is just a short distance away. Spending some time on the beach will show you what a diverse city Malaga is: The beach is a great place to "people watch".

Getting to all these attractions is easy: The airport is less than 8 km from downtown. There are flights here from more than 60 cities worldwide. It's easy to get from the airport to downtown and everything you want to see and do.

Now that you know a little bit about Malaga, isn't it time to visit? All you have to do is call your travel agent or go online and start making plans to visit this great Spanish city. It will be a trip you will long remember.
