Jamaica Holiday Guide Things To Do

Its beautiful beaches, its emerald waters, and its vibrant culture are just a few reasons why Jamaica has become one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world. Located just 145 kilometres south of Cuba, this island nation is the gem of the Caribbean, offering visitors a variety of excursions and adventures, as well as offering a relaxing and leisurely environment. Whether it's Jamaica's pristine beaches or its exciting nightlife, this ultimate destination offers something for everyone.

Jamaica's natural pristine beauty and warm weather is what keeps visitors coming back, so it's no surprise that tourists want to take advantage of the many activities that take place in the islands lush tropical interior or in the inviting water of the Caribbean. Doctor's Cave Beach in Montego Bay has been one of the most popular beaches on the island for almost a century and is known for its white sand beach and crystal clear water. Part of the Montego Bay Marine Park, Doctor's Cave Beach is a great place to start for snorkelers who can get comfortable with the beach's smooth, sandy bottom, as well as local restaurants and bars to retreat from the sun to. Local guides can take tourists by boat to further explore the marine park, offering excellent opportunities to snorkel the area's breathtaking coral reefs. By night Montego Bay offers a vibrant nightlife, full of popular restaurants, nightclubs and local watering holes. It's a great opportunity to sample local fare and tastes.

But Jamaica isn't just about beaches. Just to the south of Montego Bay are the Blue Mountains, a range that covers a 3rd of the island and offers hundreds of trails through its diverse ecosystem. Its lush tropical vegetation includes over 250 species of flowering plants found nowhere else on earth, and is also home to the Homerus swallowtail butterfly, the largest butterfly in the Americas. The range's tallest mountain, Blue Mountain Peak, stands at 2256 meters, and on clear days visitors to the top can see as far as the island of Cuba. On the east side of the island is Dunn's River Falls, a waterfall terraced in stages 275 meters high. It is a popular destination for those wanting to relax and those wanting a little adventure. Visitors to the falls can swim and play in the pools below the cascading water, or if they're brave enough, can choose to climb the entire waterfall. Guides are available to help groups up the falls and the hike usually takes about an hour.
