Cabo San Lucas, or Cabo, as most people know it, is located in the Baja California Peninsula, in the state of Baja California Sur in Mexico, which is one of the 31 states of Mexico. Before becoming a state on October 8, 1974, the area was known as the South Territory of Baja California.
Its largest city and capital is La Paz which is most commonly known as a tourist resort and historic landmark because of Loreto, the historic first capital of all three Californias (Baja California Sur, Baja California, and California).
The town of Santa Rosalia which is the site of a historic church designed by Gustave Eiffel. All these attributes have made Cabo become a very attractive high end holiday destination due to the number of timeshares and resorts along the coast of the beautiful and exciting peninsula.
The word cabo translates into English as cape and San Lucas is the Spanish name for Saint Luke. Thus Cabo San Lucas can be translated as Cape Saint Luke and Los Cabos as The Capes.
The history of Cabo shows that the first humans came to the southern end of the peninsula 14,000 years ago. When the first Europeans arrived, they encountered nomadic groups of Pericu surviving on a subsistence diet based on the gathering of fruit, seeds, roots, and shellfish as well as hunting and fishing.
According to Hatsutaro's narrative when he arrived at Cabo San Lucas on May 1842 there were only two houses and about twenty inhabitants. However, American authors such as Henry Edwards and J Ross Browne claim that Cabo San Lucas' founder was an Englishman named Thomas Ritchie, aka Old Tom Ritchie.
Among the most popular attractions at Cabo are found the warmth of its waters, beautiful beaches, and sport fishing among others. Those attractions have motivated many Mexican and foreign vacationers spend their vacations in large scale developments there.
In fact, the Mexican government, a few decades ago, decided to develop the infrastructure to turn Cabo into one of the most attractive touristic centers in Mexico. As a result of this initiative, Cabo has become a very important vacation and Spa destination, with a great variety of sites of interest and timeshares built at the coast of the Mexican peninsula.
Having the largest Marling tournament in the world, Cabo receives tourists from every country to participate and win the so coveted prizes and enjoy of the beauty of its beaches and its spirit of competition. Another amazing attraction is during the winter when pods of whales can be observed in the ocean, while they bear their calves in the warm waters there.

As vacationers travel and stop by this exotic place, they enjoy of a wide variety of music shows in many high-end night clubs and restaurants such as the popular "The Wabos" which is one of the most visited places in the peninsula.
Cabo San Lucas' raucous party atmosphere and San Jose's laid-back colonial style are bridged by a golf course-and resort-studded Tourist Corridor that stretches between the twin towns in 20 miles of pristine white sand beaches and craggy coves.
