How To Plan Your Destination Wedding



Getting married abroad is not as hard or costly as you may think. Going international to say I Do adds fun, excitement and intimacy to any wedding.

Whether it is as exotic as a Caribbean paradise or as wild as retreat to Las Vegas, a destination wedding can be relaxing, enjoyable and memorable.

Choosing the Destination

The most important part of a destination wedding is, of course, the location! When it comes to deciding on the place you plan to have your nuptials, the number of choices can be overwhelming.

Researching a variety of wedding locations before you make your decision is very important. Before you can decide on a place, you and your fiance must first ask yourselves these questions:

What is the atmosphere and climate you want for your wedding?

Should it be hot so you and your guests can enjoy days of relaxation on the beach? Or comfortably warm so you can take tours of historic towns and cities?

Using online travel sites are great a way to get detailed information on all of your possible destinations. Once you have narrowed it down to two or three locations, a travel agent can further provide you with more information such as possible activities and accommodations for your wedding guests.

What venue should you use?

Before you choose the venue for your wedding, it is important to get an idea of how many people will be attending. When it comes to destination weddings, not everyone can afford to make the trip. Airfare, accommodation and meals can get expensive. After you have some idea of how many people you can expect to make it, it is time to start searching for a wedding venue.


If your wedding is going to be at a popular tourist spot, many hotels may offer you a discount on accommodations in their off-season. Do research into why it is the off season. For example, is it hurricane weather?

The more information you can get about different venues in the area, the less stressful it will be when it comes to choosing one.

Who pays for what at a destination wedding?

When you decide to get married abroad, the question of who is going to pay? will eventually pop up.

As a general rule, the bride and groom are expected to pay for costs associated with the ceremony and reception such as the reception and rehearsal dinner. Some couples also decide to pay for a shuttle to pick up and drop off guests at the airport as well as the accommodations for those in the bridal party.

Guests can expect to pay for activities not associated with the wedding such as meals and beverages other than at the reception and extracurricular activities. Guest attending a destination wedding also pay for their plane ticket if they are flying there and their hotel room.
