Fantastic Vacations In Loch Ness, Highlands

Scotland is a marvelous country to spend a few days, or a longer vacation. It is intensely popular with mountain climbers, ramblers, hill-walkers, hikers and other visitors who enjoy vacations of this type. Virtually all people enjoy the varying and pretty countryside which has a magnificent selection of sites to visit including some well know, and impressive, areas of outstanding beauty. One of these sites which is, more than likely the most loved is Loch Ness and the famous Nessie. In the following article I introduce this most interesting Loch Ness as place in which to take a vacation.

Enormously deep and moody, Loch Ness is a massive stretch of water situated in the astonishing Scottish Highlands not a large distance away from the city of Inverness (see below for more info). Surrounded by the most stunning countryside, which features enigmatic woodlands, huge mountains blanketed in heather, the loch is much more well known for being home to the Loch Ness Monster who is known throughout the world as Nessie.

Nessie make her first appearance in history in the autobiography of St Columba. Apparently St Columba charmed a sea monster back into Loch Ness after it had been frightening one of the monks.

During the third decade of the 20 th century a road was created which ran along the banks of Loch Ness. Within a couple of years in 1934 stories relating to sightings on an enormous monster began to feature in the press.

Inverness, widely known as the capital of the Highlands of Scotland, was granted city status in the year two thousand and one and at the moment is the only city in the Highlands of Scotland. Uniquely (in the UK) the city has no statutory boundaries which can create problems with population statistics. The calculations are less likely to be accurate by the fact that the population in increasing dramatically, the city has the highest growth rate of any United Kingdom city. One thing we can say for certain is that the city has a fairly happy population, the city of Inverness was ranked 5th in a survey taken, by the Telegraph.co.uk (2008), of 189 UK cities for quality of life. From this we can state that Inverness is a pretty alright city in which to stay and this is probably one of the reasons which make Inverness immensely popular with tourists. Crucially there is a large number of Inverness hotels with the majority being available to book online.

One important fact you should remember is that the airport for Inverness is, near enough, seven miles away at Dalcross. It is easy to hail a cab to the small but busy airport which is fairly cheap. If you require a map of the area then you can get them for free at the tourist office, on Castle Wynd in the town center. While you are enjoying your Inverness vacation you should make a point to visit Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, Inverness Castle, the 'stone of tubs' and Mercat Cross especially the Castle Garrison Encounter, an interactive experience which is great fun.

If you are considering having a vacation in Scotland based in Loch Ness and Inverness then you will discover Inverness bed and breakfast online by using the search term "Inverness hotel accommodation" or "Inverness bed and breakfast" into your favorite search engine (the quotation marks can help greatly).
