Experience A Cape Town Safari
Cape Town is blessed with a wealth of varied and diverse biospheres. Many of these unique ecosystems exist in the game parks scattered over the region. They are all still in close proximity to the city limits.
Sanbona Wildlife reserve is one such game park not situated far from the city, just within a few hours drive. The reserve is at the centre of the Karoo desert which was once home to San people. The reserve is distinctive because of its involvement in a project to successfully reintroduce the white lion back into its natural habitat.
Game parks offer visitors loads of fun things to do. Guests may lie back and enjoy the extravagance associated with most game parks or they can go out with a game ranger on a guided safari to see the animals in their natural surroundings. Parks in South Africa are fortunate to have the 'big five' present on their reserves, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros and elephant.
Day trips to these locations and parks can be arranged. One example is Aquila, a private game park not more than two hours from Cape Town. A three hour safari can be organized which will have visitors back at their hotels in the city before nightfall.
Safaris take place under the guidance of well trained and qualified game rangers. These skilled and learned professionals are licensed by the National Parks Board with detailed understanding of the animals and plants they come into contact with. They possess knowledge of all the safety and security procedures should guests be faced with threatening situations.
Children of a certain age are not permitted on safaris. Game parks are not like zoos where animals are limited to their confined spaces; here they are free to roam and do as they please which makes them unsafe. With this in mind, most if not all game parks take this into consideration and provide facilities for children while parents are out on safari.
Lion, rhinoceros, elephant, leopard and buffalo are not the only animals that are impressive for tourists on safari to see in the natural environs. Many of the other animals fall into the deer or buck species, such as: Oryx, wildebeest, Springbok and Bontebok. Hyena, zebra, giraffe and even ostrich are also some of the more favorites to see among tourists. For any visitor this makes for a once in a lifetime experience.
