Dundee Angus City Of Discovery
Scotland's east coast region of Angus is known for its awe inspiring and rugged North Sea coastline and for its busy and ancient City of Dundee.
The verdant hills and glens are a walkers paradise, as are the miles of golden sandy beaches peppering the North Sea coastline. The late and much loved Queen Mother was raised in her nearby ancestral castle of Glamis, and this whole area is replete with a splendid cultural heritage that is unique to the eastern seaboard as is evidenced by the many visitors that flock here from home and abroad.
Dundee has been aptly named the City of Discovery, and rightly so. As well as having a fine arts feel, it also boasts an excellent theatre and cosmopolitan cinema complex. The famous Dundee Rep and Contemporary Arts complex is a must visit incidentally.
There are many different attractions in and around the City of Dundee and whatever your tastes are in art, sport, or theatre there is something there to please you. For example, you can enjoy golf (naturally) swimming, skating, fishing, walking boating and a raft of other activities. One of Britain's dearest activities of course is shopping. So, the Overgate shopping centre is always very well patronised. In the area of Dundees Pedestrianised High Street will be found the Wellgate and Murraygate shopping malls displaying a very wide range of wares, and at the water front the City Quay complex caters to bargain hunters of designer label goods.
Be sure to pay a visit to City Quay on the waterfront for bargains in designer label goods, and in the pedestrianised High Street vicinity you will discover two more excellent shopping centres called the Wellgate and Murraygate with a wealth of goods on display
The city has an enviable historical aspect for sure, but if one foot is firmly entrenched in the past, the other is very definitely planted in the future. This is clear by its development of the popular Sensation Science Centre. This is an intriguing attraction, which uses tactile exhibits to entertain as well as educate, and is an especial favourite of children must see.
The highlight perhaps of its historical past is the ship that Captain Scott sailed to the Pole birthed at the River Tay close by. Interestingly, the name of the vessel is R. S. S. Discovery.Another must see event! There is so much to do and see in this wonderful region of Scotland. This is no more so than in Dundee Angus, where a welcome warmer than whisky awaits.
