Alternative Activities In Paris
Paris is known for its most famous attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, Le Cathedral de Notre Dame, La Seine, and the Louvre Museum. But in addition to the most popular tourist attractions there are some smaller, much quieter places which are worth a look. Ask your Paris hotel staff where to go or follow the suggestions below to findf lesser known but still Paris locations. These places can be ideal for those who have been to Paris before or would simply prefer to see Paris in a new way.
1.Arc de Triomphe
Though the Arc de Triumph is famous in its own right and renowned for being the gate of the Parisian hearts, people don't often take the time to get to know this stunning monument. Located in the middle of the roundabout in the heart of the Champs-Élysées, the Arc de Triomphe is unfortunately quite difficult to get to! From the subway, there is a path which goes underground below the boulevard and because of this some tourists avoid going to see the base of the Arc and the flame of the Unknown Soldier there. It is worth the effort though and is a nice alternative to the long queues you will find at the Eiffel Tower.
2.The Eiffel Tower Park
The Eiffel Tower is probably Paris's most famous landmark and attraction and indeed one of the most famous tourist spots in the world. Around the tower itself however the visitor can find pretty alternative places to go such as the Carousel Park and gardens. On one side of the tower is a lovely walking park near surrounded by lovely, leafy trees which create a canopy of shade on a hot day in the Parisian sun. Sit on a bench and enjoy the aroma of pink flower blossoms while you soak up the scenery and the atmosphere of buzzing Paris.
3.District Hopping
Paris has many different districts all famous for their own unique qualities and atmospheres, from St German de Pres to Montmartre. Buy yourself a Carnet of tickets for the Metro and go district hopping to see and experience all the differing areas of the city which native Parisians call home.
4.Le Moulin Rouge
Much more than a musical movie, the 'red windmill' is actually a famous ancient brothel and a symbol of Paris in days gone by. The original architecture still exists though the surrounding scenery has changed somewhat. Still there are hints of the red light district in this busy night-time location, while during the day there is great shopping to be had, with different and less expensive Paris fashions available to take home and show off to friends. There are a number of decent Paris hotels in this area of the city.
5.Sunday market
The Sunday market is definitely the place to go if you are looking for great gifts to take back for friends and family. Not as much a tourist destination as other places in Paris so you will see authentic French daily life here when bartering for jackets, jewellery and stylish but inexpensive underwear. It's easy to get caught up in the crowd and lose your way, so take a French phrase book with you to get some helpful advice and information if needed. Like any busy venue, this market can be prey to pickpockets so always keep an eye on your money. A money belt is highly recommended, especially for the tourist who is still adapting to the new Paris scene.
