A Guide To Taunton Somerset
On the south western coast of England is Taunton - Somerset. It is the biggest town in its area, or shire. Due to its rich history in economics, war, and government, it remains a leading town to this day and houses the Royal Marines.
It started its influential history when the Saxons founded it before the first millennium. Quickly viewed as a strong hold, a castle was built, as was a mint. The castle, sadly, is no longer there for viewing as it was torn town by the same people who built it when it was threatened to be taken by rebels.
It did not have any shortage of religion. The area was owned by Bishops for a number of centuries. It then switched hands numerous times during the War of the Roses because both sides were able to acknowledge its benefit. Many battles were fought in and around Taunton and several leaders have passed through. It remained a site for battle even until the second World War.
Taunton has been rebuilding and reshaping its image. The economy had not been very good of recent years so, in an attempt to bring more spending to the area and create more jobs, some unused land nearby was going to be developed. This area would be turned into shopping centers and other businesses, as well as new housing areas. These projects are taking off and unemployment has been lowered.
The local industry includes a high amount of cider production, for which the area is famous. There is also a deal of production for optics, and a great deal of employment for the government. Being the site of the Royal Marines, there is naturally a lot of opportunity for research employment dealing with the sea and with military operations.
The town also has philanthropic aims--and has had them for centuries. It is one of the first sites of a women's shelter which was created in the sixteen hundreds. This building still serves the same purpose today. One charitable area that, thankfully, does not need to be run any more was a leper colony.
Taunton can be just one great experience after another. The churches have great masses for the religious and are worth a look for tourists in general. Historians delight in them. For sports fans, there is plenty of cricket to watch, as that is the main sport here. You can also find plenty of skateboarding and mountain biking to be done.
